Gary R. Preysner is an exceptionally effective change agent and executive who combines broad strategic consulting expertise with senior level corporate line experience. Gary is widely seen as a leading edge thinker and an executive confidante to many of the world’s largest and most respected insurance companies and has consistently introduced new and novel concepts and business practices to the world of insurance and manufacturing.
Mr. Preysner began his career at General Electric as a finance and operations manager in several of GE’s heavy industry service and manufacturing businesses. During his subsequent seven years at McKinsey & Company, he worked on numerous financial and operational improvement projects with domestic and international insurers and investment banks. He spearheaded about two dozen post-merger integration projects for clients, including rationalizing a 1,000+ branch banking network. He led several pioneering projects that applied Activity Based Costing methodologies to financial institutions, including trading operations, retail lending, and Information Technology areas. Mr. Preysner was one of the original creators of Strategic Sourcing and one of the first to apply sourcing techniques within the P&C and Life/Health Insurance industries. As a founding partner of the Mitchell Madison Group, Mr. Preysner created the firm’s insurance practice de novo, introducing new sourcing strategies to claims and other areas, thus generating $25 million in consulting revenues within the first year. Mr. Preysner also headed Aon Corporation’s NYC consulting operations.
Mr. Preysner received his BA and MBA degrees from Yale University and also studied at the Uniwersytet Jagiellonski in Krakow, Poland. He has also been a graduate level MBA lecturer and instructor in Operations Research and Quantitative Methods at the Tataglia School of Business of Albertus Magnus University in New Haven, CT. Mr. Preysner is also a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt and a Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU).

Result: Efforts generated over $10 MM in overall annual run-rate savings. •Enterprise Software Procurement: Led negotiations for service desk software resulting in >50% cost savings for licenses and saved hundreds of thousands of dollars in licensing and maintenance liabilities via analysis, consensus-building, and negotiations at a leading international commercial and investment bank. •Procurement Transformation Project Management: Managed a 10-person cross-functional global team to lead a production equipment sourcing and standardization effort for a Global Pharmaceuticals Company. Defined project scope and plan, and reported progress to senior management. Developed Sourcing Strategies for major pharma equipment subcategories. Positioned the organization to capture $30-50M in cost savings.
Technology / Project Management Experience
•Budgeting Tool and Process Development: Collaborated with a Health Insurance company’s FP&A team to develop an excel-based, Expense Guidance model based on Cost Drivers. Analyzed key Expense Areas, Cost Drivers and associated business processes via focused interviews, workshops, SIPOC and GL analyses. Developed a new set of Cost Drivers that either augmented or supplanted the existing Cost Drivers. Enabled an easier and more accurate budget forecasting process for its $1.2 Billion expense base. •Activity-Based Costing Model Development: Partnered with a mutual life insurance cross-functional team to formulate an Activity Based Costing model to determine true product and channel profitability. Developed the project plan and tracked progress. The innovative tools were adopted as part of the company’s performance measurement system. •Enterprise Risk Management SaaS Implementation: Implemented an ERM platform spanning ten major Risk Categories at a Mid-Atlantic regional P&C insurance carrier/ specialty insurance provider. Created content and assisted with customization efforts to ensure that the product captured and measured client’s key risks. The company transitioned from an excel-based Risk Register to an ERM system which enables the organization to speak a common “Risk Language” and radically improve its Risk Culture.
